U.S. launches national fight against Alzheimer's disease
Obama’s plan is important
Editor, The Times:
We’ve all watched loved ones fade away under the weight of Alzheimer’s. The loss of memory, sense of self and control over bodily functions turns family members into strangers. For decades, we have been tormented by this cruel disease with no hope in sight — but that changed this week. [“U.S. launches national fight against Alzheimer’s disease,” News, May 16.]
It tore my family apart when my grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. That was nothing in comparison to the pain of her not remembering any of us when we would visit her. I am terrified of that happening to me, and I will do everything I can for that not to happen to anyone else.
That’s why Obama’s new plan to stop Alzheimer’s is so important to me. And it’s why we need to stand behind it.
