Jenny Durkan, you can leave now!

Why are the people of Seattle silently allowing Jenny Durkan and the U.S. Justice Department to handcuff the Seattle Police Department? [“Feds await police use-of-force proposal,” NWSunday, May 13.]

Has Durkan walked the streets of Seattle, between First and Fifth, and Virginia Street and Union Street, around the hour of 10 p. m.? I have to think not.

So why is Durkan and associates allowed to waltz into Seattle and dictate to the residents and the police department “how” the police will do their job?

I have heard enough “trash talk” descriptions of police departments. These men and women, who risk their lives daily — that is, daily, Jenny — are not working in Mayberry.

I think Durkin and her supporting staff need to put on the uniform and try their hand at doing the job they are so eager to criticize and collar.

The residents of Seattle are fortunate enough to be able to collectively afford to pay people to do effective police work, day in and day out.

I think it is time for the people of this community to tell Durkan and Washington, D.C., to back off!
