All mothers work

Editor, The Times:

As a Democrat, I strongly disagree with CNN Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen’s claim that Ann Romney “never worked a day of her life.” [“Mothers tossed into political cauldron,” page one, April 13.]

As one of four children — three of us boys — whose mother was a stay-at-home mother until we were all out of the house and on our own, I can tell you that she had one of the hardest jobs anywhere — and Mom did a great job at it.

But Hilary Rosen a “strategist”? She doesn’t work for the administration, or as part of the Obama campaign, nor for the Democratic National Convention. As far as I know she isn’t part of any campaign. Instead she is paid by CNN as one of its many political blatherers from both parties, whose nonsense keeps me from watching it, and keeps them from being part of any actual campaigns.

Take my word, Rosen did not speak for most Democrats.

Ann Romney ‘out of touch’

Ann Romney is as out of touch with reality, as is her husband, when she equates her decision to be a stay-at-home mom and wife (of a multimillionaire) with the necessity most women face of having to work in order to support themselves and their children.

If she really believes women should have choices about motherhood, she should switch to the political party that supports a woman’s right to choose, affordable medical insurance for all and equal treatment in the workplace.

What is the larger, nonpolitical meaning of the Hilary Rosen’s attack on Ann Romney?

It is that the feminist movement, having done to the American family roughly what communism once did to the economies of Eastern Europe, now also needs to crow over its “triumph.”

Ann Romney can’t identify with poor, single mothers

So, Ann Romney was a stay-at-home mother with the help of nannies, maids, cooks, etc. I doubt she can identify with poor single mothers working to put food on the table for their children any more than Mitt Romney can identify with the poor and middle class. Give me a break!
