Attorney in Bremerton school shooting case seeking too much

NRA, Republicans responsible

I agree with Nicole Brodeur’s questioning of the states’ liability for the tragic shooting of Amina Kocer-Bowman. [“Attorney is seeking too much,” NWTuesday, April 10.] However, I disagree with her claim that the “deep pockets ... just aren’t there.”

The responsible parties for the harm inflicted on this innocent girl are the National Rifle Association and the five Republican-appointed justices on the Supreme Court who have eviscerated any attempt to impose sane gun-safety laws by distorting the Second Amendment beyond recognition. To what “well-regulated” militia did the boy’s mother and boyfriend belong that gave them the right to keep an unsecured loaded handgun in their home?

The ultimate “deep pocket” liable for this tragedy is the Republican Party, which should be held morally responsible by the voters in the November elections.

— Michael Perlman, Seattle
