Inmates to be fingerprint-checked against U.S. immigration database
Safety concern
I am very disappointed to read that King County signed the agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to implement the Secure Communities program. [“ICE jail-fingerprint programs not statewide,” NWWednesday, April 4.]
I personally know of persons who were detained and placed on a fast track to deportation when they had the legal right to be in the U.S. One had called 911 to report a traffic accident and another because she was the victim of domestic violence. I, for one, do not want county residents to be afraid to call 911 because they might be deported for doing so.
