Proposed cuts to financial aid, Pell grants

Posted by Letters editor

Without grants, unable to achieve ‘greatness’

The proposed cuts to the Pell Grant, up to $2,500 per recipient, would making it impossible to continue my education [“Big student debt could limit schools’ aid access,” Business, June 1].

I am a single mother of three, and I work 25 hours a week while still attending full-time classes at Edmonds Community College. Without the additional money I get from grants, I would not be able to afford to pay for my classes, and there would be no avenue open to me to improve my ability to adequately provide for my family.

I urge congressional leaders to act on the behalf of voters all over the United States who are trying to better the lives of their families and themselves by continuing their education.

Please do not cut our funding. Let us achieve the greatness we are capable of.

—Amilla Frehner, Everett
