Cowlitz County coal-export terminal approved

Posted by Letters editor

U.S. coal exports adversely affect entire planet

George F. Will asks “Can something really be exported if it supposedly affects the entire planet?” [“King Coal: The future looks a lot like the past,” Dec. 31].

Coal can be exported from one country to another. Burning coal affects the entire planet.

So, the answer to his question is “Yes!”

The next question we need to ask ourselves is “Should the United States export coal to China —through Cowlitz County in environmentally conscious Washington state— when we know that burning coal adversely affects the entire planet”?

The answer to this question is “No!”
