SALT LAKE CITY – Quin Snyder has been hired to coach the Utah Jazz.

The 47-year-old Snyder, a standout guard at Mercer Island High School and Duke, spent this season as an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks. He replaces Tyrone Corbin, who was let go in April after going 112-146 in three-plus seasons.

“The opportunity to join the Utah Jazz and to be part of such a highly respected franchise with an incredibly bright future is a great honor,” Snyder said in a statement. “I approach this opportunity with gratitude and humility and am committed to doing everything I can to help the Jazz become a championship-caliber team.”

Snyder reportedly has a three-year deal, with a team option for a fourth. His NBA experience also includes being an assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers.

Snyder coached Missouri from 1999 to 2006, had a 126-91 record and guided the Tigers to four NCAA tournaments.

Snyder resigned as Missouri’s coach in February 2006. He told media he stepped down after a university official sent by athletic director Mike Alden told him the administration had already decided to terminate his contract after the season.

Snyder’s post-Missouri jobs include coaching the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League and being an assistant with CSKA Moscow.

“He has an impressive basketball pedigree, including more than a decade of head-coaching experience that positions him well to succeed in the Jazz organization,” Greg Miller, Jazz chief executive officer, said in a statement.
