The Sonics have signed guard Mike Wilks to a 10-day contract. Wilks, a 5-foot-10 guard, played in eight games for Denver and four games with Washington earlier this season.

Wilks played in 47 games last season for the Sonics, averaging 3.6 points and 1.7 assists. Wilks averaged 4.4 points and 1.4 assists for the Sonics in 2006-06.

To make room for Wilks, the Sonics waived forward Ira Newble today. Newble, who does not have a guaranteed contract, was acquired last week in a three-team trade from Cleveland that sent Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West to the Cavaliers.

The Sonics also announced today that center Robert Swift will undergo season-ending arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. Dr. Stephen Lombardo will perform the procedure in Los Angeles.

Swift has played just eight games since tearing his ACL on Oct. 25, 2006.
