JERUSALEM —

An Israeli official says Jewish extremists are suspected in the killing of a Palestinian teenager, which set off days of riots.

Mohammed Abu Khdeir, 16, was abducted last week and his charred body found in a Jerusalem forest in what Palestinians say was a revenge killing over the earlier deaths of three Israeli teens.

An Israeli official said Sunday that new evidence points toward Jewish extremists as the likely killers.

Police also looked into criminal or personal motives in Abu Khdeir's killing. But the official says authorities now believe the attack was motivated by "nationalistic" reasons.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is continuing.
