MIAMI —

Tropical Storm Erin is moving westward over the eastern Atlantic.

The storm's maximum sustained winds early Friday are near 40 mph (65 kph) with slow strengthening forecast over the next two days.

Erin is centered about 430 miles (695 kilometers) west of the Cape Verde Islands and is moving west-northwest near 16 mph (26 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says that general motion is expected to continue with a gradual decrease in forward speed over the next few days.
