TUNIS, Tunisia —

Tunisia's national assembly has set a timetable to complete the nation's political transition, with new elections to be held between Oct. 15 and Dec. 15.

The state news agency said Friday the final dates will depend on an election commission that will be set up to supervise the elections.

Tunisians overthrew their dictatorship two years ago and have since been undergoing a lengthy transition period.

The assembly, elected October 2011, has to finish writing the new constitution before elections can be held and it set April 27 for the document to be completed.

If it is not approved by two-thirds of the assembly in July or August, it will be submitted to a popular referendum before elections can be held.
