Spanish authorities say more than 150 sub-Saharan migrants charged a barbed-wire border fence and tried to enter the Spanish enclave of Melilla from Morocco. A dozen injuries were reported.

About 50 migrants made it over the six-meter (20-foot) fence at 6 a.m. (0500 GMT; 1 a.m. EDT) Monday although police managed to force most back. Police searched Melilla for those who got through.

A Melilla Interior Ministry statement says 10 migrants and two police officers were treated for minor injuries. Melilla is one of two Spanish enclaves on the northwest African coast that are surrounded by Morocco on one side and the Mediterranean Sea on the other.
