A colorful ex-governor of Louisiana who had spent eight years in federal prison for his role in a riverboat casino corruption scandal is requesting an early and immediate end to supervised release.

Prosecutors support the request. They say Edwin Edwards has served more than 18 months of his three-year supervision and poses no public safety.

The 85-year-old ex-governor is set for airing of a reality TV series beginning next month with his third wife.

Edwards said in a motion filed Jan. 10 in federal court that he has long since served his time, paid his fines and done all required of him after a 2000 felony conviction in a scheme to rig riverboat casino licenses.
