Royal officials in Britain say Queen Elizabeth II will be visiting Rome for two days in March.
Buckingham Palace says the monarch will be making the trip with her husband, Prince Philip, on March 6 to 7.
There were scarce details Thursday and it was not clear if the queen will be visiting the Vatican as part of the trip.
The queen last visited Italy in 2000, when she toured Rome and Milan.
Philip represented the monarch at Pope Benedict XVI's inaugural mass in the Vatican in 2005.
