BEIRUT —

Syrian state media say a rocket has slammed into building in the northern city of Aleppo, causing many casualties.

The state-run SANA news agency says rebels fired a rocket on Friday morning, hitting a building in a government-controlled area of the city, Syria's largest.

SANA blamed terrorists for the attack, a term the regime uses for rebels fighting to topple President Bashar Assad. The number of dead and wounded was not immediately clear.

On Tuesday, 87 people, most of them students, were killed at Aleppo University in twin blasts that struck as students were taking their exams. Each side blames the other for the attack. The regime said rebels hit the university with rockets. Rebels say the deaths resulted from a regime airstrike.
