CARACAS, Venezuela —

Officials from Venezuela's telecommunications regulatory agency have notified the local Globovision television channel of a forthcoming sanction.

National Assembly president Diosdado Cabello and Energy Minister Rafael Ramirez urged the agency earlier Wednesday to take action against Globovision for allegedly violating broadcast regulations.

Cabello claims Globovision broadcast false information regarding interpretations of the Venezuelan Constitution amid a dispute over the legality of postponing the inauguration of President Hugo Chavez.

The agency has not yet announced what type of sanction it will impose on Globovision.

Globovision is the remaining counterweight among Venezuela's privately owned TV channels to state television, which airs only praise for Chavez while attacking opposition politicians.
