WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. —

A church outside New York City is being prepared for the funeral of the man shot to death outside the Empire State Building last week.

Steve Ercolino was mourned Tuesday at his wake in White Plains, north of New York City in Westchester County. His funeral was planned for Wednesday morning at Our Lady of Sorrows church in White Plains.

The 41-year-old was fatally shot in the head Friday morning by a former co-worker who blamed him for being laid off last year from a company with offices near the Empire State Building.

The gunman, Jeffrey Johnson, was killed in a hail of police bullets after brandishing his weapon. Nine bystanders were wounded.

Ercolino leaves fiancee Ivette Rivvera, who was heard sobbing with grief near his coffin at the wake.
