Rwanda denies U.N. charges that it helped create, arm and recruit for Congo's latest eastern rebellion in a 131-page rebuttal filled with descriptions such as absurd, nonsensical and "demonstrably false."
The report dated July 27 and published Saturday on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims to disprove a June report by a U.N. Group of Experts. It provides alibis for officials accused of helping organize the rebellion.
Rwanda denies training Rwandan soldiers to support the rebellion saying its Kanombe barracks "cannot host the training of recruits."
The 3-month-old rebellion has the rebel army deserters in control of the strategic town of Rutshuru and all towns along the 75-kilometer (50-mile) route north from the provincial capital of Goma, which is held by soldiers backed by U.N. peacekeepers with helicopter gunships.
