MIAMI —

Tropical Depression Fabio is weakening in the Pacific and is expected to degenerate later in the day.

The depression's maximum sustained winds early Wednesday are near 35 mph (55 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the depression is forecast to weaken to a remnant low.

Fabio is centered about 460 miles (740 kilometers) southwest of Punta Baja, Mexico, and 580 miles (930 kilometers) south-southwest of San Diego. The depression is moving north near 10 mph (17 kph).
