New York City police responding to a gas leak at an apartment in the Bronx found two young children dead and a woman with lacerations to her wrists.

Police said Friday that the 5-year-old boy and 4-month-old girl were killed in an apparent murder-suicide attempt. They say the woman cut her wrists and left a note.

The children's bodies were found shortly before midnight Thursday when police responded to a 911 call of a gas leak.

A 29-year-old woman was found in the apartment with minor lacerations to her wrists. She was taken to a hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

The victims' names were being withheld until family could be notified.

The investigation is continuing.
