Two people were charged Tuesday with reckless arson after a suspicious fire damaged four homes and displaced 10 people in San Francisco, police said.

It took more than 100 firefighters over an hour to control the blaze that began around 3 a.m. in the city's Bayview District, an industrial area on the outskirts of the city near Candlestick Park.

Eight adults and two children were displaced, fire officials said. No injuries were reported.

Police suspect the fire was intentionally set, and 61-year-old Ronald Weeks was charged, Officer Carlos Manfredi said.

Witnesses said they saw him carrying some kind of incendiary device, and he was detained when he later returned to the fire scene, Manfredi said.

Neighbors told KTVU-TV the area is home to many squatters and Weeks may be one of them.

Two women reported seeing him running away from the scene with a gasoline can, the station reported.

Erin Kennedy, 48, also was charged with reckless arson, Manfredi said.

Authorities have not estimated the cost of the damage.

Police did not know if the two suspects had retained attorneys.
