PHILADELPHIA —

Authorities say a Philadelphia woman found dead in her home had been fatally mauled by her own dogs.

Autopsy results were released Thursday on 50-year-old Carmen Ramos. She and her husband shared their north Philadelphia house with five pit bulls.

Police say Ramos' husband found her dead when he returned home from work Tuesday. Ramos had severe injuries to her head, face and body.

Police conducted a homicide investigation, but the medical examiner's office ruled her death an accident.

Neighbors say the dogs were recently removed by animal welfare officers after they escaped and attacked two residents. But they say the dogs were later returned.

Animal welfare officers again removed the dogs after Ramos' death. The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is investigating.
