CANCUN, Mexico —

The former campaign manager of a Cancun mayor arrested on drug charges says a judge has freed the politician on those charges but federal prosecutors have detained him again.

Gerardo Mora Vallejo says former Mayor Gregorio Sanchez is now held on suspicion of money laundering. Mora insists prosecutors don't have proof.

The federal Attorney General's Office has not confirmed Sanchez's release or his re-arrest Saturday. Sanchez was first arrested in May 2010 while campaigning for governor of Quintana Roo state.

Mexican authorities have detained politicians in several high-profile organized crime cases in recent years, only to see them free due to lack of evidence.
