FREMONT, Ohio —

Police say a monkey on the loose in northwest Ohio scratched two young girls before it was caught by its owner.

Fremont police Capt. Kenneth Buchele (boo-SHEHL') tells The Blade newspaper of Toledo that the 6-year-old grivet (GRIH'-vit) monkey was about the size of a raccoon. Police got the first call that it was running free just before 4 p.m. Thursday. The owner reported that she'd recaptured the animal about 2 1/2 hours later.

Buchele says the children did not need medical attention for their scratches.

He said the owner would receive a citation for allowing an animal to run through the city at large.
