Peru's Vargas Llosa: I won't vote for Fujimori

Nobel Prize-winning author Mario Vargas Llosa says he just might vote for Ollanta Humala in Peru's presidential runoff election.

SANTIAGO, Chile —

Nobel Prize-winning author Mario Vargas Llosa says he just might vote for Ollanta Humala in Peru's presidential runoff election.

Vargas Llosa says he'll never vote for Keiko Fujimori because her father led what he calls "one of the most atrocious dictatorships Peruvians have had."

A fervent defender of liberal democracy, Vargas Llosa says he might support Humala, a former army officer who many Peruvians fear could govern like Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.

Vargas Llosa says Humala should make alliances that prove he'll govern more like Brazil's Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Vargas Llosa spoke to Chilean state television Tuesday before receiving an honorary degree in Santiago.

Peru's runoff election is June 5.
