BOSTON —

The Coast Guard is assisting a 430-foot ocean freighter that lost power after a small fire and was set adrift in 16-foot seas off the coast of Massachusetts.

The Coast Guard said the vessel Dintelborg was headed from the Netherlands to Virginia when a fire on the bridge caused the power loss.

The agency said it got an emergency signal from the freighter just after 1 a.m. Saturday. A helicopter reached the ship at about 3 a.m., roughly 70 miles southeast of Cape Cod.

The vessel's crew was able to communicate with the copter using a hand-held radio. The Coast Guard said nine people were on board the ship, all unhurt.

The Coast Guard said a cutter was expected on the scene later Saturday, and a tug would tow the disabled ship to Providence, R.I.
