Guinea's borders closed; Sierra Leoneans stuck
A police official says that hundreds of people from Sierra Leone are stranded on Guinea's side of the border with the West African country after Guinean authorities closed its borders Saturday.

A police official says that hundreds of people from Sierra Leone are stranded on Guinea's side of the border with the West African country after Guinean authorities closed its borders Saturday.
Police superintendent Alfred Dassama said Sunday that Guinea's government announced border closures by land, sea and air Saturday night. He said that Guinean officials would not give details on why they closed the borders, but told Sierra Leone police it was a "security measure."
Dassama said that Sierra Leone authorities are negotiating with Guinea to allow people to cross the border to return home. He said hundreds crossed into Guinea for business reasons.
Guinea held a contentious presidential election at the beginning of November that was overshadowed by ethnic tension and violence.
