BALTIMORE —

Machine gunfire broke out during a birthday party at a Baltimore hotel and three people were critically injured. Police say the shooter is still at large.

Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi (gool-YEHL'-mee) says officers were called to the Sheraton hotel around 3:15 a.m. Sunday after a fight broke out and someone began shooting.

Police found the Uzi submachine gun in a room where the party was held.

Guglielmi says two people were taken to the University of Maryland Medical Center's Shock Trauma Center. One of them had been shot in the head, the other was shot in the torso. The hospital's nursing coordinator says they are in critical condition.

Guglielmi did not know which hospital had the third person, who he said had "facial lacerations."
