Attacks in Russia's Caucasus kill 2
Police say a soldier and a police officer have been killed in attacks in Russia's volatile Caucasus region.
The soldier died early Monday when unidentified gunmen fired at a train carrying troops from Chechnya that had pulled in to the town of Khasavyurt in the republic of Dagestan east of Chechnya.
Regional police spokesman Mark Tolchinsky said another soldier was wounded.
An unidentified gunman late Sunday also shot and killed a police officer in the city of Nazran in the province of Ingushetia, which is located west of Chechnya, police said.
Provinces in Russia's North Caucasus region have been troubled by violence linked to rebels based in Chechnya, a police crackdown on Islamic militancy, clan rivalries and internal power struggles.
