MOSUL, Iraq — A member of the Fort Lewis-based Stryker Brigade was killed and nine others wounded yesterday when a suicide bomber steered a bomb-packed pickup toward their combat vehicle and set off the deadly cargo.

The names of the dead and wounded were not released.

At least two Iraqis were killed and 18 wounded. Two U.S. soldiers were killed in a rocket attack in southern Baghdad yesterday, the military said. No further details were disclosed.

The deaths brought to 1,073 the number of U.S. service members killed since the United States invaded Iraq in March 2003; 818 have died as a result of hostile action.
