Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel plays the Moore
Jeff Mangum, whose '90s band Neutral Milk Hotel had an outsized influence on indie rock, plays two solo shows at the Moore Theatre Monday and Tuesday.
Jeff Mangum, in town solo this week, is a game-changer, or rather his Louisiana band Neutral Milk Hotel was, with its 1998 possessed-sounding psychedelic-pop masterpiece "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea." That album set trends that played out over an entire generation of indie rock — epic horn arrangements and involved poetry among them. News of Mangum's show has generated so much excitement, a second show has been added. Mangum performs at 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Moore Theatre, 1932 Second Ave., Seattle; $32.50 (877-784-4849 or www.stgpresents.org).
