Hot Java Cool Jazz: time to celebrate high-school jazzers
Five Seattle-area high-school jazz bands perform Friday, March 30, at the Paramount Theatre for the Hot Java Cool Jazz concert. The bands come from Garfield, Ballard, Mountlake Terrace, Roosevelt and Edmonds-Woodway high schools.
It's time once again to celebrate the Seattle area's award-winning high-school jazz bands. This year's Starbucks-sponsored edition of Hot Java Cool Jazz features outfits from Garfield High School (pictured), which was honored this year with a showcase slot at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival; three finalists in the 2012 Essentially Ellington competition in New York — Roosevelt High School, Ballard High School and Mountlake Terrace High School; and Edmonds-Woodway High School, selected to participate in this year's Savannah Jazz Festival Swing Central Competition Workshop, in Georgia. 7 p.m. Friday, Paramount Theatre, Pine Street, Seattle; $20 (877-784-4849 or www.stgpresents.org).
