‘The Lone Ranger,’ ‘Prisoners,’ ‘Percy Jackson,’ ‘Kick-Ass 2’

New DVD releases for Tuesday, Dec. 17, include the Hugh Jackman kidnapping drama “Prisoners”; “The Lone Ranger,” starring Armie Hammer and Johnny Depp; and the sequels “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” and “Kick-Ass 2.”

New DVDs

Tuesday’s releases include “The Lone Ranger” and other “Kick-Ass” crime fighters. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services. For full reviews, search the movie title at Release dates are subject to change.

3.5 stars“Prisoners” (R): Hugh Jackman stars as a father who becomes unhinged when his young daughter and her friend disappear.

3 stars“Elysium” (R): An ex-con hero (Matt Damon) fights to survive in a futuristic society driven by class and racial differences and oppressed by an all-seeing surveillance state.

2.5 stars“Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” (R): This ’70s-set Texas Western, in the tradition of “Bonnie and Clyde,” involves an outlaw (Casey Affleck), his pregnant girlfriend (Rooney Mara) and the police detective (Ben Foster) she injures in a shootout.

2 stars“The Family” (R): In Luc Besson’s action comedy, a mob family (Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dianna Agron, John D’Leo) relocates to France under the witness-protection program.

2 stars“Ghost Team One” (R): It’s a micro-budget comedy that sends up such “point-of-view” horror flicks as “Paranormal Activity.”

2 stars“The Lone Ranger” (PG-13): Hi-yo, Silver! Armie Hammer’s masked avenger and Johnny Depp’s Tonto join forces to fight for justice in the Old West.

2 stars“Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” (PG): The sequel to “The Lightning Thief” follows the demigod (Logan Lerman) and his friends as they go on a quest to fetch the Golden Fleece and try to, once again, save Olympus.

1.5 stars“Kick-Ass 2” (R): Amateur costumed crime fighters battle amateur costumed evildoers in the latest “Kick Ass” installment starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
