Superheroes are everywhere this summer. Specifically, Joss Whedon’s 2012 mega-blockbuster “The Avengers” shows up on many of this year’s outdoor movie schedules.

There’s plenty of family-friendly fare, including “Brave,” “Finding Nemo,” “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” and “The Princess Bride.”

For something a little different, look to the “Monster Attack! Japanese Creature Feature Classics” series at Volunteer Park, or the Fremont Outdoor Movies events “R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet: Sing-A-Long” and “Stay Classy: Anchorman Movie Party.”

The season gets under way Tuesday with “Hotel Transylvania” (PG) at the Bellevue Downtown Park and ends more than two months later with the original “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” (PG-13) at the Cascade Playground in the South Lake Union neighborhood.

In between are dozens of films, most of them free (except where noted), at parks and parking lots all around Seattle and beyond. And these are just some of the series announced so far; check MovieTimes in The Seattle Times every Friday and seattletimes.com for regular updates (search Outdoor Movies 2013). Then grab a chair, a snack and a friend, and get ready for cinema under the stars.
