The 1990 movie "Total Recall" (some say Arnold Schwarzenegger's best work) is released this week, timed to coincide with the release of the remake starring Colin Farrell, which opens Friday. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services. For full reviews, search the movie title at seattletimes.com.

"Total Recall: Mind-Bending Edition" (R): Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Doug Quaid, a construction worker living in the future who discovers that his entire existence has been a fabrication.

3.5 stars"Le Havre" (unrated): A sweet story of tolerance set in its namesake French coastal city, "Le Havre" tells the story of a shoeshine man with a big heart. Seattle Times film critic Moira Macdonald found the quirky and spare dialogue a joy and the movie's mix of "cigarette smoke and storybook endings" a pleasure indeed.

2 stars"Damsels in Distress" (PG-13): Macdonald described this movie as "an oddly retro tale of a group of college women determined to raise standards at their school, mostly by singing and dancing."

1 stars"Detention" (R) Times reviewer John Hartl said this "hopelessly unfunny slasher comedy starring Josh Hutcherson from 'The Hunger Games' ought to be put in detention."
