Out of the shadows Tuesday come an Oscar nominee ("In Darkness") and sequels to "Sherlock Holmes" and "Ghost Rider." Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services. For full reviews, search the movie title at seattletimes.com.
"In Darkness" (R, subtitled): Director Agnieszka Holland's latest Oscar nominee in the best-foreign-film category is based on the true story of a Catholic Polish sewer worker (played by Robert Wieckiewicz) who hid a group of Jews over a period of 14 months in the underground tunnels of Lvov during the Holocaust.
"Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" (PG-13): Guy Ritchie's sequel brings back Robert Downey Jr. as the Master of Deduction and Jude Law as his sidekick, Dr. Watson, as they work to bring down the Napoleon of Crime himself, Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris).
"Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" (PG-13): Nicolas Cage returns as the biker from hell, this time trying to save a boy who "completes" Satan's Grand Design.
"Tyler Perry's Good Deeds" (PG-13): A San Francisco CEO (Perry), engaged to a shallow go-getter (Gabrielle Union), is jolted out of his routine when he meets a struggling single mom (Thandie Newton) who works for him as a night janitor.
