A few hunks — and punks — make their way to DVD Tuesday. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services. For full reviews, search the movie title at seattletimes.com.
"The Ides of March" (R): George Clooney's political thriller takes us on a ride through a political campaign. The all-star cast includes Ryan Gosling, as an oil-smooth press spokesman for a presidential candidate (Clooney); Paul Giamatti, as a rival campaign manager; Philip Seymour Hoffman, as yet another political operative; Marisa Tomei, as a newspaper reporter; and Evan Rachel Wood, as a temptress who knows she's trouble. "All have faces the camera loves, whether for beauty or character or openness; all disappear into their roles, letting us forget that we've seen them many times before," says Seattle Times movie critic Moira Macdonald.
"Abduction" (PG-13): Taylor Lautner, "Twilight's" buff teen werewolf, transforms into leading-man action hero — playing a studly high-school wrestler on the lam — in John Singleton's thriller.
"Mysteries of Lisbon" (not rated): An orphan (João Luis Arrais as a boy and Afonso Pimentel as an adult) learns the story of his origins in this Dickensian tale that's more than four hours long. In English, Portuguese and French, with English subtitles.
"Dirty Girl" (R): A raunchy teen comedy starring Juno Temple and Jeremy Dozier.
"Courageous" (PG-13): This faith-based film deals with four sheriff's deputies (Alex Kendrick, Ken Bevel, Kevin Downes, Ben Davies) who are tested by a small city's gang and drug problems.
"Kevin Hart: Laugh at My Pain" (R): A film version of the comedian's recent stand-up tour. No star rating provided.
