Every summer, "Ghostbusters" and "The Princess Bride" show up on outdoor film series around King County. But with the growing popularity of family-friendly movies at the multiplexes, the canon is growing.

This year, "Tangled," "Despicable Me," "Megamind" and the new "Karate Kid" are common additions. More grown-up fare is also on offer, from "The Fighter" to "Pulp Fiction," both rated R.

The season gets underway June 25 with a screening of the R-rated "Shaun of the Dead" at Fremont Outdoor Movies. It ends more than two months later with "Up" (PG) at Marymoor Park.

In between are dozens of films, most of them free (except where noted), at parks and parking lots all around Seattle and beyond. And these are just some of the series announced so far; check MovieTimes in The Seattle Times every Friday for more. Then grab a chair, a snack and a friend, and get ready for cinema under the stars.
