Video: Coolout TV / Ishmael Butler on Emerald Street Boys
Some cool words about Seattle's first rap group Emerald Street Boys, from Ishmael Butler of Shabazz Palaces:
"The Emerald Street Boys, they were the most inspirational to us in the hood because when we were kids, seeing them, or hearing about them, or running into one of them on the street — it was like seeing a straight-up, bonafide superstar. Plus being at that age where you just respond to everything that's going on, hip-hop is new, here was these cats that were doing it, and dancing, and popping and locking. It was like looking at stars sparkle in the sky."
