It was a brave new world for Seattle "swirl" band Stephanie Sunday evening at Barboza, especially for keyboardist/guitarist Matt Lawson, newly appointed drummer. His preprogrammed laptop beats replaced drummer Robert Wolfe, recently relocated to Los Angeles. Where Wolfe brought blood and muscle to the band's post-punk sound in the past year (and to debut album "One Glove," out Nov. 13), the new beats were icier. Stephanie played four brand new songs and hit gold with the untitled third one, a minor-chord jam with a disco edge, sounding not unlike Portland's Chromatics and Gossip.
