With the loopy, far-ranging and totally enjoyable "Hoop," local pop quartet Witch Gardens has made a mixtape in two senses of the word. One, it is a compiled playlist of personal favorites like one might dub onto a cassette for a friend (ie: a mixed tape) — old school psychedelic rock and country, '90s electronica and modern rap. Two, it is a mixtape loosely styled after how hip-hop deejays make them, with exclusive tracks only that deejay has access to, in this case Witch Gardens demos. Props to mixer Casey Catherwood* for including the incredulous motif from the hardcore world of Trap-A-Holics tapes: "Damn, son — where'd you find this?"

Witch Gardens plays Saturday in Volunteer Park for free, for Cairo's "Vibrations" festival.
