"I Hate Feeling like This" by I Low
Multi-instrumentalist I Low is one of the current crop of former Tacoma School of the Arts students now burning it up in New York City — along with Widowspeak and Vacation.
#Salute to the epic Americana/beats guy's new single "I Hate Feeling Like This." When he was in Tacoma a few months back, he told me he had all these musical ideas, and just "wanted to get into a real studio." Now I see what he meant.
"I Hate Feeling Like This" is a headphone symphony with a hip-hop beat, a regal pop song with Reynolds' baritone singing voice almost/not quite twanged out and countryish. I've never heard that particular lane mastered like it is here. There's a real impressive, expansive feel — the piano chords sound like they're coming from a 15-foot instrument. The song ends with the sound of thunder crashing.
I Low's label Family Records says "I Hate Feeling Like This" was recorded "half in seclusion in an apartment hanging above the streets of Gramercy, Manhattan and half in seclusion in a studio built into an old church in Tacoma, Washington."
