The 2011 Grammy nominations were announced tonight, and Seattle showed up.
Pearl Jam was nominated for Rock Album of the Year, for "Backspacer."
The ghost of '90s grunge looms in the nominees for Best Hard Rock Performance*, which pits Alice in Chains against Soundgarden and Them Crooked Vultures, which features Dave Grohl, formerly of Nirvana. Also nominated in that category: Stone Temple Pilots, a grunge-ish band, and Ozzy Osbourne.
Osbourne is not typically lumped in with grunge, but like the men in those other bands, he is not young.
What's up, Grammys? No young people are rocking hardly these days? And Seattle: still known nationally as a rock town with a grunge past?
More on Grammy nominations here, full list here.
*Full list: "A Looking In View" by Alice In Chains, "Let Me Hear You Scream" by Ozzy Osbourne, "Black Rain" by Soundgarden, "Between The Lines" by Stone Temple Pilots and "New Fang" Them Crooked Vultures
