The continuing saga of KUBE morning host Eddie Francis and American English's current homophobic lexicography
Posted by Andrew Matson
The original post is here, where I called Eddie Francis out for his use of "pause" at the end of sentences on air during his morning show at KUBE 93.3 FM.
"Pause" and its sister phrase "no homo" uphold an unhealthy relationship with homosexuality, a relationship based in fear. But analyzing the relationship itself is not really my business because 1.) it's too deep, and possibly an unending prejudice, and 2.) Eddie Francis did not ask me to be his psychiatrist. My gripe is that he's in the media and should be more careful. His outlet is mainstream. Again, check the original post here to know exactly what I'm talking about.
He saw my post and wrote me this email:
What up Andrew? It's Eddie Francis. I read your article about my use of "Pause". I'm not offended by your article. More than anything I took it as a complement. I think as myself as a reasonable person so I can understand where you could be upset. I apologize if you were offended. The intent was to not use the phrase "no homo". I was saying it in more of a joking tone than actually trying to denounce any gay undertones. I get it though. I'm not going to lie to you and try to get extra PC on air, but I never have the purpose to offend people. Appreciate the perspective fam. Take care
Eddie Francis
