More Rodriguez @ Triple Door: "Sugar Man" video and collected aphorisms
Posted by Andrew Matson
Here it is, "Sugar Man," probably Rodriguez's greatest hit that never was. Unless you live in South Africa, where he was and is a big deal. Last night at Triple Door, it absolutely killed.
Note the artsy floating candles in the video. That's my signature touch from now on. Ghost votives.
Words to live by after the jump.
I urge you to check out KEXP DJ Cheryl Waters' blog post about "Sugar Man," which, in addition to illuminating the song's influence, has a link for downloading its mp3.
"It's a description, not a prescription song," he said to preface it.
Rodriguez talked in maxims all night long.
"Know why you can never trust a woman? Same reason you can never trust a man. Trust no one."
"Boys make the noise, but girls rule the world."
"There's only one age: You're either alive or dead."
At one point, an excited female fan interrupted his words of wisdom with a throaty, "I love your smile!"
Dramatic pause, then Rodriguez:
"I know it's all bullshit baby, but keep talkin'."
Coolest. Response. Ever.
