Starting pitcher Chance Ruffin was roughed up for seven runs as the visiting Tacoma Rainiers lost to the Sacramento River Cats 11-7 in a Pacific Coast League game Thursday night at Raley Field.
Ruffin (0-3) allowed two home runs on the warm night in Sacramento.
First baseman Jesus Montero had a double and two walks. Montero is hitting .289. Nick Franklin was the designated hitter and went 1 for 5. Franklin is hitting .338 with Tacoma.
Both teams collected 14 hits but Sacramento held off a rally after the Cats tallied a combined six runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Tacoma third baseman Gabriel Noriega had four hits.
The Rainiers (13-12) return home to begin a four-game homestand Friday night against Las Vegas.
