Ex-Mariner Harang flirts with no-hitter
Outfielder, Class AA Jackson Generals
Selected in the 13th round of the 2011 MLB amateur draft out of University of Alabama-Birmingham
The diminutive and speedy outfielder has hit safely in 11 of his first 13 games with the Generals, including five multi-hit games. He’s batting .327 (17 for 52) with four doubles and seven runs batted in and also has a .375 on-base percentage and two stolen bases. Austin stole 40 bases last season for Class A High Desert.
Ex-Mariner of the week
Starting pitcher, Atlanta Braves
The object of anger for many Mariners fans last season, Harang was a late pickup by the Braves after failing to make the Indians’ starting rotation out of spring training. He has flourished, posting a 3-1 record with a 0.70 earned-run average. In his most recent outing Friday night, Harang threw seven no-hit innings against the Mets before being lifted from the game for a pinch-hitter. It was the second time he flirted with a no-hitter this season.
