Tacoma roughs up Salt Lake, 7-1
James Paxton’s eight strong innings helped the Tacoma Rainiers to a 7-1 victory over the Salt Lake Bees before 4,213 at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.
Paxton (8-11) limited the Bees to one unearned run on five hits over eight innings. He struck out seven batters and walked one.
In the first game of his rehab assignment, catcher Mike Zunino hit a triple and scored the Rainiers’ first run. Zunino finished 1 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored. Rich Poythress hit a two-run double with two outs, and Ji-Man Choi connected on a two-run home run one batter later for a 5-1 lead.
Carlos Peguero stretched Tacoma’s lead to 6-1 with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth — his team-leading 18th of the season.
Poythress (3 for 5) added a homer in the eighth.
Choi also collected three hits.
