NEW YORK — The face of the New York Mets plans to stick around for a while.

All-Star third baseman David Wright and the Mets agreed Friday to a $138 million, eight-year contract, according to multiple media reports. The deal, pending a physical, is the richest in franchise history; it keeps the 29-year-old Wright at $16 million for next season and includes $122 million in new money.

Angels get Hanson

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Braves traded pitcher Tommy Hanson to the Los Angeles Angels for former closer Jordan Walden.

Hanson, 26, had rotator-cuff tendinitis in 2011 and a lower-back strain in 2012. He was 13-10 this year, but his earned-run average was a career-worst 4.48.

Walden, 25, was 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA this year.

The Angels also claimed outfielder Scott Cousins off waivers from the Mariners.

Andino, M's agree

The Mariners reached a one-year contract with infielder Robert Andino, about 10 minutes after letting him become a free agent. Andino was the only arbitration-eligible player the Mariners did not tender a contract to, hoping for a more team-friendly deal.

Andino earned $1.3 million last season and stood to get just under $2 million in arbitration, more than the M's wanted to pay for someone slated to be a backup infielder. Terms of the new deal were not announced.

The Mariners acquired Andino, 28, from Baltimore last week for outfielder Trayvon Robinson.

The team also signed relief pitcher Josh Kinney to a one-year deal and tendered contracts to catcher John Jaso, pitchers Jason Vargas and Shawn Kelley and shortstop Brendan Ryan.

• Pitchers Brian Wilson (San Francisco), Jair Jurrjens (Atlanta) and Mike Pelfrey (Mets); slugger Mark Reynolds (Baltimore); catcher Geovany Soto (Texas) and infielder Jack Hannahan (Cleveland) were among the most notable names set to become free agents after their former teams declined to offer them contracts for next season.

Teams had until 9 p.m. PST Friday to make 2013 offers to unsigned players on 40-man rosters.

Hannahan is an ex-Mariner.

• Houston claimed Philip Humber, 29, off waivers from the Chicago White Sox and agreed to a one-year, $800,000 contract with the pitcher who threw a perfect game against the Mariners on April 21.
